What should I consider in choosing a webhost for an online business?
February 272010
We are based in UK and will sell items in UK. We want to use Nochex & paypal as payment gateways and obviously have a shopping cart.
We want to be in total control of the website including being able to edit prices, pictures & descriptions, links etc. We also want access to help if needed
So what is the problem?
Any webhost can give you all those things you need. You should be able to make your site capable of doing them.
For instance, Yahoo! has a package called small business that can do all those things.
log in to http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ and subscribe. It’s around 10 dollars a month.
There might be some other hosts that are cheaper. Search and you will find them.

I suggest you use 1 and 1 : http://www.1and1.com
They have all the features you need with built in e-shopping builders to guide you through the process. They are quite cheap and if you get the £8 p/m hosting package you get 3 free domain names. They supply a load of software to use to build your website and give support 24/7. Hope this helps.

SSL would be the most important thing this gives people security when entering payment details, a SQL database or MYSQL, hosting size, if it includes a built in shopping cart.
