I am wondering to buy BF3 for xbox or PS3. I just want to know if its gonna end up hacked due to no dedicated servers… But since the ps3 players get the dlc a week earlier I am thinking tht it now has dedicated servers..

battlefield has always been better online , there are really no hacking issues and they patch glitches pretty fast , plus they actually have open betas and test the servers and for any possible cheats before release unlike activision and call of duty games
you should be fine with bf3 , they are in closed beta now and open beta starts sept. 29 for everyone on psn

im so p.o at black ops when trying to knife someone or taking a hole clip to kill someone cause of a crappy host i really hope mw3 will have dedicated servers. does anyone know if they will or not?

Most likely not. Activision doesn’t want to spend the extra money for dedicated servers unlike EA which do have dedicated servers. If Activision did have dedicated servers than there might be less cheaters and lag switchers.

For consoles I know they are going to have it for pc.

i have been hearing a lot of talk about bringing back something called a dedicated server to Modern warfare 2. i have also heard that COD4 used a dedicated server, but if it did, then i like the modern warfare 2 servers better because you don’t time out all the time. can someone please explain to me what a dedicated server is, and how it is compared to another server like the one currently in use by Modern Warfare 2. thanks for all the help!

a dedicated server is one that runs at all times, has no down time, and has least lag.
dedicated servers don’t host all of the consoles on one.

I run a public gaming server and want to make my security better. My dedicated server has multiple IP addresses. How can I make the game server use a different IP address then the remote desktop to the dedicated server uses? Do I need to enable the extra IP addresses or should they already be enabled and should work just by using one of those on the server rather then what remote desktop is using?

You need to use a router that supports NAT. Nat allows you to translate a private ip address to a public ip address. For instance, if your server is 192.168.1.1, and your public address is 4.3.2.1, you make a NAT entry in the router that says 192.168.1.1 uses 1.1.1.1 as its public ip address. You then make a second entry for your computer, 192.168.1.2 for example, and tell it to use your other public ip address, 1.1.1.2 for example.

I’m renting one myself, so here you go.
1. A 10 slots server is about 8€ a month.
2. Yea, altho depending by companies and games, it will be a computer open 24/7 hosting more than a server. These are very powerful computer and can easily host many servers altogether. Don’t be worried tho, performances shouldn’t be a problem unless you get a really crappy one.
3. Once you create an account and pay the server you’ll be given access to a control panel where you can do about anything you could think of. Good hosting services will provide control panels with a lot of customization that are really easy to use even for non experienced users.
4. I think most hosting services will let you host bukkit servers. The one I use at least does. Changing plugins in most control panels will be as easy as picking them off a list and clicking on "Add".

Dedicated servers = Servers hosted by players and followers of the game. You scroll through the menu, find a game, and if it isn’t full, you join. If you like the server, save it to your favourites, and play again. I’m guessing you’ve never played an FPS on the PC. If you haven’t then it’s pretty self-explanatory since consoles use the P2P method, or the method where you are automatically placed with random people.

Dedicated servers = proper way to play (IMO).

The article says there will be dedicated servers. But did not specify if it was talking about consoles or PC’s. I could definitely see them only putting them on PC’s. I’m not sure how much dedicated servers cost, but I think it would be well worth no. No more host migration and all that crap.
