In this tutorial you will learn how to MANUALLY install Joomla 1.5 onto a REMOTE server with cPanel.

This video demonstrates installation on a namecheap.com hosted web space, but if you have another hosting provider that provides cpanel this will almost certainly work for you as well.

You might have to manually configure the FTP file system access layer after install if you have errors when trying to install templates. Tutorial here:

If you run into any problems, I suggest watching my tutorial on how to install Joomla on a FREE 000webhost website; If you can install it there, you can install it anywhere:

Or, if your provider has Fantastico (or similar auto-installer), you can auto-install Joomla, but you might not be getting Joomla 1.5 that way. Tutorial here:

I use camtasia studio, but I do the blue-screen/green-screen in adobe after effects. camtasia lets you do a screen cap and webcam recording at the same time.

I keep meaning to more vids and I will soon, just been busy at a new job. I’ll likely to community builder first and then virtuemart.

at 4:26 I added an annotation regarding this. Sorry, but I think you will have to reinstall. The Joomla dev team I think was a little careless about this and give people the impression that they should delete the installation folder before they should.

Man this is strange, I done exactly what you said and it went to Joomla for the first phase, then I deleted the installation file as described , now all I get on my page is

“No configuration file found and no installation code available. Exiting…”

And there appears nothing I can do about it… any help would be much appreciated…

Thank Alex, simply a fantastic tutorial series.

    Two things:

    1. Would you be able to provide a tutorial on installing Virtuemart onto Joomla through the CPanel interface?

    2. What movie recording software have you used in making this video?

Thanks again. Please don’t ever delete this video – We can use it as a re-usable prompt sheet for future project installations.

    Hello and thanks …
Hello and thanks for creating a superb tutorial. I was able to go through your two part series on installing Joomla 1.5 and had my site up in the time it took me to complete your video. I literally just learned about Joomla less than a week ago. Thank you for the good work.

The other 2 look to …
The other 2 look to be your content. I hope you didn’t have anything important in them that wasn’t backed up. I recommend to people to pretty much never outright delete anything unless you are 100% sure you know what you are deleting because there is NO way to get it back (shy of calling your host and begging and possibly having to pay).

    cgi-bin was prob …
cgi-bin was prob already there and if you don’t know what it is then you are certainly not using it (yes, it IS meaningful to some people, but cgi users know exactly what this folder is for).
The other 3…well…ummm…I think you have realized by now that they are YOUR content.
pbpbb3 looks to me to be a phpbb3 installation. phpbb3 needs an index.php just like joomla does which is why joomla and phpbb can NOT be in the same place (eg. root) without a little tweaking.
