Heroism Part 1 – from Freedomain Radio

I’m sorry if the word “designed” seems confusing, I certainly did not intend it to mean “consciously designed” (which is why I clearly stated that the myths had remained unchanged for thousands of years, I didn’t picture cavemen plotting this stuff out and handing it down through the generations!) – I meant “designed” in the way that biologists say that molars are “designed” to crush food, not in having a conscious designer, but in having evolved that way…

    @Rmb2489 ” Society …
    @Rmb2489 ” Society has a moral and ethical base”………!!!! Say that to 1.5 innocent dead Iraqi’s.Which planet you living on? Is it the same one as me? Society is a predatory integrated top down power structure built on money and violence. What’s numbers got to do with it? There may be 6.5 billion now but there wont be by 2050. Check out the Georgia guidestones for an update.

    Question for you …
    Question for you Stef: What would you consider the summary of this video is?

  3. @dharmashooter …
    @dharmashooter Society has a moral and ethical base, technology is empowering and yes whilst it can be more destructive it also allows for amazing capabilities. I really dont believe that we’re doomed, there are 6.5billion humans after all,

  4. dharmashooter on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @Rmb2489 I think …
    @Rmb2489 I think we’re doomed anyway, God or no. My point is that without a moral and ethical base then technology becomes life threatening and ultimately destructive.

  5. dharmashooter on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @Rmb2489 you sound …
    @Rmb2489 you sound very idealistic! it’s a big, bad world out there. take ‘global warming’ for example. research in any area tagged with that receives money from big foundations and other areas don’t because there’s a political agenda at work. Same with genetic engineering. Academia. like politics and the media is bought and paid for. Who pays the piper calls the tune.

  6. @dharmashooter and …
    @dharmashooter and so your point is? that we need a God to subscribe to or all is doomed?

    and i agree partially with your point on funding, but there are so many funding bodies and fields that the scientific community grows in all areas! and projects that dont get funding will eventually be researched, funding has to go to projects most likely to succeed balanced with the potential applications

  7. dharmashooter on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @Rmb2489 It’s …
    @Rmb2489 It’s quite clear. Funding is given to scientists to pursue certain fields and not to others. The fields it’s given to are the one’s that the funders think will produce results advantageous to them. You can’t separate science from its applications. Every discovery will be used for good or bad and that’s the only thing of importance. How it will affect human beings. There’s no reason for science in the first place otherwise.

  8. @dharmashooter Your …
    @dharmashooter Your point is rather odd, what is discovered is what is funded to be discovered. i fail to see how that’s not neutral. funding to investigate the link between a gene and a protein will result in the elucidation of the function of the gene. The question of Neutrality doesnt come into it, regardless of your intention with regards to the research the qualities of that gene are the same. again you seem to be linking “science” with its uses, this time by using funding as an example

  9. dharmashooter on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @Rmb2489 I’m well …
    @Rmb2489 I’m well aware of the difference between science and the application of technology, I have a degree in physics and astronomy but most don’t and so I use common parlance so people in general will get the gist of what I’m saying. The fact is, science is performed by human beings and as such is never ‘neutral’. What is discovered is what is funded to be discovered. It takes a lot of dough to build a collider.

  10. @dharmashooter Wars …
    @dharmashooter Wars are fought for two reasons, Resources and Ideology. Religion has a lot of the latter. As someone working in the scientific field i find your comments about a “scientific dictatorship” amusing. you are confusing science with the application of technology. Science is a process of discovering more about the universe, how that knowledge is used is NOTHING to do with science

    @ScubaSctimpy when …
    @ScubaSctimpy when you say never ‘meant’ to be one what is the intelligent force you’re referring to that has decided that they should never coincide?

  12. dharmashooter on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @ScubaSctimpy of …
    @ScubaSctimpy of course it’s conjecture! all foretelling is guesswork but my reference point I can see in the infrastucture of a scientific dictatorship being built around me everyday in the real form of surveillance, databases, RFID’s, aerial drones, etc and it’s not too hard to imagine where it’s going without some counterforce. Religion is not the cause of war. Wars are fought for land, profit and control.

  13. ScubaSctimpy on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @Cizjut they are …
    @Cizjut they are polar opposites, every discovery in science reduces the power of religion, they were never meant to be one. science is the discovery of the truth through reasoning and evidence, religion is the maintenance of credulity.

  14. ScubaSctimpy on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @dharmashooter pure …
    @dharmashooter pure conjecture, you have no reference point, it’s like me saying without religion there would be no wars

  15. dharmashooter on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    You don’t become a …
    You don’t become a hero by imitating the deeds of others or getting applause. The dressing isn’t the thing. It’s doing the RIGHT thing. Only YOU know what the right thing to do in any given time is. Heroism is about being your own hero. Knowing you said the unsayable, did the undoable according to your conscience.

  16. dharmashooter on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @Cizjut One thing’s …
    @Cizjut One thing’s sure, without God and faith, science and technology will destroy us all.

  17. @GeofsFilms I …
    @GeofsFilms I understand that the view of the author is to be more pro-active and that would be grand for sure but I needed to challenge his views or his theory with my personnal experience, because heroes still teach us right from wrong, they still teach us that the underdog can win as long as he never gives up and most importantly… that love can be enough to win and endure against any odds. True or not, if it inspires into action… it’s great in my view.

  18. Personnaly speaking …
    Personnaly speaking, heroes inspire me to be better and of service to others. I have to admit that like most heroes, I don’t go out of my way to look for trouble. When trouble does find me, people I care for and others… I simply do the right thing and I hope that whatever it is I had to do, inspires others to do the same or better when it’s their turn to act.

  19. Excellent…
    Excellent…

  20. @dharmashooter
    I …

    @dharmashooter
    I like you. Most people don’t realize why faith and duty and why science and religion are meant to be one.

  21. cambaprecoz on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    You just defined …
    You just defined escapism, sir.
    Something that has been with mankind since forever, why the myths? why the ancient heroes? Heracles, Gilgamesh and many others.
    I believe heroes can inspire us, it’s just that not many of us are willing.

  22. cafeterialoca on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    He really needs to …
    He really needs to get to the point more.
    This video didn’t need to be so long.

  23. dharmashooter on May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am

    @Cyrus255 Fear is a …
    @Cyrus255 Fear is a result of uncertainty. Uncertainty is a result of a lack of knowlege. Knowlege is a result of ACTION. ACTION is a result of FAITH. Therefore inaction is a result of LACK OF FAITH.

    Stef, the retards …
    Stef, the retards are out in force for this video. what happened too that nice little explanation that was here as part of the uploader comments?

  25. Mmm, common …
    Mmm, common cult-like propeganda. They dismantle everything you believe in, and replace it with nothing. Once they’ve done everything they can do dismantle everything you know, and you’re an empty shell, they fill you with whatever bullshit they deem fit, and you accept it, because without it you are nothing. Good job Molyneux, you’re closer than ever to having your own compound full of armed “individuals” willing to do your bidding.
