Partly-improvised …
Partly-improvised speeches always sound better than some over-rehearsed bullshit. Practice is also important, but avoid falling into the trap that I did, trying to remember every line. Once you feel you know your stuff, stop. As you get better, you’ll have to practice less and less and eventually it’ll become natural.
At the end of my internship I managed to give a great presentation in front of 100+ people, 12 of which were the top directors of the company deciding my future.
Best of luck.
…get even better. …
…get even better. I also learned how to structured my presentations as actual “stories,” which not only make your listeners more attentive, but also get rid of any stupid transitions and make it more natural for you to say. Finally (keep in mind this is all advice that worked for ME, I don’t know if it’ll work for YOU as well… You’ve gotta find what works, that is key) avoid memorizing word-for-word. I tried doing this twice, and both times I said the first sentence only and it was game over
…in order to make …
…in order to make it sound more “professional.” Another thing that helped me was to stop fooling yourself about being confident. I always told myself “OH YA YOU’RE CONFIDENT JUST GO UP THERE WOO!” only to be followed by epic failure. I started admitting to myself that I was going to be nervous, I might even tremble, but the key was to get all of those factors under CONTROL. If you can do that, after a minute or so of speaking you will begin to relax. With more experience, you’ll…
I actually felt …
I actually felt quite dismal about my future career since public speaking is a must in the business world. Somehow though, over my summer internship, I started getting it down. I attribute this partly to experience, but most of all a sudden gain in the don’t-give-a-shit factor of what people think. Stefan (sp?) is right, if you TRULY care about your idea and want to get it across, then it should come out quite naturally in my opinion. Be yourself. Don’t try to dress up your presentation…
You know, until …
You know, until recently I had the exact same problem as you. I’m in my last year at a business school in the US, and I’ve taken MULTIPLE public speaking courses. None of them helped. Ever. There were times when I literally stood in front of my entire class and said NOTHING. And it had nothing to do with confidence really. I’m perfectly confident (perhaps a bit too much at times…) in my day-to-day life, but when it comes to public speaking it’s an entirely different story.
Glad to be of help! …
And congratulations on a successful speech.
Glad to be of help!
Stefan, thank you …
Stefan, thank you so much for this video. I may disagree with a large percentage of your other videos (being liberal myself), I may cringe whenever you tell us taxation is a theft, but this video was invaluable for me.
I’d been so stressed, and my presentations all went right today, largely thanks to the techniques you outlined here.
So thank you! Unlike any advice I’ve ever seen. Perfect.
Great One…
I must say, its worth it! My link, http://charlo.persianblog.ir/,thanks haha…
