Why doesnt modern warfare 2 have dedicated servers?
Why are dedicated servers better?
Infinity Ward didn’t want people to have dedicated server because they wanted the game to be "equal on every platform". Because the xbox360 and PSN are forced to use a matchmaking system, IW decided that the PC community has to suffer the matchmaking system too.
Dedicated servers are nice because the current system is everyone is thrown into a lobby together, then when the game starts the matchmmaking system picks on of the players in the lobby to be the Host. This means everyon is sending the information to a player than is affected in-game. Since the player who is playing host is the one thats carrying everyone on their internet, they get faster speeds because there actions go directly into in-game. This has a huge advantage in a FPS since a quarter of a second means everything. Also when that host leaves, the game stops, and the matchmaking system scrambles to find a host to take over. This brings the game to a complete halt
Dedicated server mostly eliminate this problem, people who live closer to a server will probably have a better connection that those who are far away. Also this allows special lobbys that have limits on specific guns (like only snipers or no grenade launcher lobbys). The greatest part about dedicated lobbies is you can pick what lobby you join rather than be randomly herded into a lobby. This allows people who join the same server frequently to develop a community. Allows LAN parties to set up their own server within that router system which is tons of fun. Also is easier to get into the same lobby as a friend because you choose what lobby you go into and they just need to know which one you are in.
because infinity ward thought it was unfair that people used them to cheat in games (ie super speed, looking through walls, etc.)
