Source Dedicated Server – Part 4 – Port opening & general connection info! (router, firewall etc)

Part 4 of my Source Dedicated Server Tutorial, here i will show you how to open ports in your router, so that people can connect! Ive seen so many people asking questions like “why cant people connect to my server?”, and here you will get the answers, and the proper way to fix it!

    @TVWebOnline You’re sure thats your correct gateway? And you’re sure you even have a router :P ? If your connected to your router via wireless, open the ports from a computer that is wired.

    @MageDb0w get a good router ;) .. Dont know why you cant connect, if the ports are properly opened it shouldnt be a problem. Your wired to the router and so on?.. What options does your routers UI have? In the port opening section ofc.

    @MageDb0w Well read your routers users guide, and see if you need to specify any specific rules when opening ports. The way to open ports properly differs from router to router..

    I belive when i open it, it blocks them so i can’t connect, other peoples can connect to my server, but i can’t.

    @deathalizer2000 either the ports isnt open, or youve given the wrong ip.. Make sure your computer is wireconnected to your router, and that when youve opened the ports they save properly.

    @SpliNt47 Either put your computer on a wire to the router, and open the ports, or use another computer that is wired to the router. And it should work.

    @SpliNt47 are you at a computer that is wired directly to the router?.. if youre wireless it might not work, so get a comp that is wired to the router…

    other then that.. is should work perfectly.. sure your router is a router :P ?
