is 1and1.com any good for webhosting?

I am looking for a good, cheap webhosting option for a non-profit group I help organize. I was told that 1and1.com is cheap ($3-$5 a month), which they are. But are they any good for a hosting service? Has anyone had a bad experiences with them? Are there better alternatives for the same prices?
Very good hosts. I have 5 domains and 3 hosting accounts, and they are great. They offer many tools to help your project. A few sites i’ve made, one being a business, allowed me to embed maps right into the page, and they have a lot of free benefits and pretty cheap addons that can help. One note, if you want server side code such as PHP make sure you choose linux hosting. Else, if you want asp.net C#/VB choose MS. Make sure not to get those mixed up. I also recommend the hosting plan one up from the cheapest, as it adds tons more features for about 2 dollars more.

I use them for sites I have developed – no complaints

I have been using 1and1.com for about 2 years now. I use Microsoft SQL Server and .NET platform on them. No problems there. However I don’t like it that even though I signed up for 3 sites, I only get one (the other two are actually subdirectories of the main site). It messed up my .NET sites a bit as a result. I had to make changes before I can run all three. Oh and you only have one database for all sites.
Other than that they are pretty good. My sites are almost always up and running. So I could do worse I guess.
