deticated windows server?
I want to see if any one knows where i can find a windows dedicated server that doesn’t cost a arm and a leg . cheap is good any ideas ?
+Nearly all servers will run the Windows Server operating systems (maybe except Sun, alpha-based, etc). It really depends on what you consider to be inexpensive and what it is that you require for the server. You could try eBay, but just take care as to who you are buying from.
There’s no easy way to answer this as there are different servers for different environments. You can run Raid, SCSI, IDE, Redunant Power Supplies and so forth. You can run a Windows Server or a Mac Server or HP branded server, the products are endless. What you need to do is step back and plan out what you need, since this is what it boils down to.
Are you looking for just a storage dump or are you looking at building a workgroup/network around it. Are you going to implement Active Directory? Mirroring? Clustering?
If you want a barebone server out of the box, HP sells a nice little server, though very robust and it runs Window’s home server; HP Mediasmart Server – http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/mediasmart-server/#/Main/
Check out this site as well, as it’s run by a person who was a key assest on designing the HP smartmedia server; http://www.wegotserved.com/
This is also a good resource for the HP smartmedia server; http://www.whsplus.com/
Good luck Keith D Mitchell, Server Engineer, Hostmysite.com
